Fillings do not have to be dark and miscolored any longer. These metal, dark fillings are what are called "amalgam" fillings which are made from metal. If you have an old amalgam that you would like replaced with something more aesthetic or you have a cavity, you may want to have a composite, tooth colored filling placed.
Tooth colored fillings are shade matched to match the color of your teeth. Once they are cured, it is very hard to recognize any difference between your filling and your natural tooth. Fillings are used to "fill" the space where a cavity would have been. When a cavity is found, if it is what is prescribed by Dr. Harris, we will schedule you an appointment to have a filling placed. The process involves removing the decayed part of the tooth and then filling it with a tooth colored composite. The composite is a liquid resin until cured by a special ultraviolet light so it is easy to make it match the contours of your natural teeth and not disrupt your bite.
